The last time ABS-CBN changed its logo was on the year 2000. It was the biggest change since the old boxed logo where ABS was on top and CBN was at the bottom.

This 2014, ABS-CBN has launched a slightly tweaked version of its iconic logo. The 3 rings, symbolizing TV’s RGB colors and the country’s LuzViMinda regions, are now noticeably thicker. The modified Rotis font of the original lost its serif hooks on most of the new letters, the C was also changed to reflect the overall adjustments of dropping the ‘classic’ look. 

The new logo was said to have been used as a secondary logo to the original and was used since October 2013. However, on January 1st, 2014, the old logo was officially retired and the new one used on the opening year theme “Masayang Muli ang Kwento Natin”.

MMDA, metro mayors OK LRT 1, 2 extensions

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and various mayors of Metro Manila through the Metro Manila Council (MMC) have approved plans by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to extend the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 and LRT 2 lines.

The extension plans were approved in Monday's meeting of the MMC serving as the Regional Development Council (RDC) at the Makati City Hall.

The DOTC said that although the LRT Line 1 (which runs from Baclaran to the Roosevelt Station in Quezon City) is physically connected with the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) line, operationally it is not.

The DOTC said the two lines are 1.2 kilometers apart and must be connected by building a common station near the SM City North EDSA Annex.

The proposed 6,098 square meter common station would cost P1.39 billion. Construction starts in the third quarter of 2015 and is expected to be finished by the third quarter of 2016.

The DOTC said that once completed, the common station could serve at least 69,750 passengers per day. The DOTC added that passengers could transfer from an LRT 1 train to an MRT 3 train in just about a minute using the common station.

Meanwhile, the MMDA and the MMC also approved the DOTC's plan to extend the existing LRT Line 2 by 4.19 kilometers eastward from the Santolan Station at Marcos Highway to the intersection of Marcos Highway and Sumulong Highway.

With the line extension, the LRT 2 line will have two new stations. One station would be located infront of the Robinson's Place Metro East Mall in Cainta, Rizal. The other new station would be located at the Masinag Junction in Antipolo City.


The LRT 2 line extension would cost about P9.5 million to build and is slated to be finished by 2016. It is projected to serve at least 526,400 passengers per week by 2045.

Motorists advised on 13 road projects till 2016

Up to 13 road and mass transport projects in the capital are in the pipeline in the next two years, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday as it advised motorists and commuters to brace themselves for continued heavy traffic on major routes till 2016.

In a meeting, the Metro Manila Regional Development Council (RDC)—a body composed of the MMDA and the 17 mayors of Metro Manila—approved the various projects proposed by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Speaking to reporters, MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino said the construction schedules of these projects might overlap and “there will be a point when they will happen simultaneously.”

To prepare for this, the project proponents will meet again on the first week of February to draft a traffic management plan “for the whole metro.” Alternative routes and rerouting schemes will be discussed not just per project but based on their being “interconnected,” Tolentino added.

In the morning session, DoTC representatives presented a plan to start constructing two transport stations in Taguig and Parañaque cities under the Integrated Terminal System starting in the fourth quarter of the year.

Transportation officials also advised the body about the Light Rail Transit 1 North Extension Common Station that would connect the LRT 1 line and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) near SM City North EDSA Annex in Quezon City. Work starts in July this year and is expected to be finished in September 2015.

The DOTC’s LRT 2 East Extension Project, which will extend the rail line along Marcos Highway from Santolan station to Sumulong Highway, is also expected to be constructed from November this year to June 2016.

DPWH representatives, meanwhile, presented the center link project connecting Bonifacio Global City to Ortigas Center. Construction is expected to start in July this year.

Phase I of the project will put a bridge over Pasig River between Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City to Lawton Avenue in Makati City. Phase II will run from Lawton to the BGC Viaduct, then from Shaw Boulevard to the Sta. Monica viaduct.

The DPWH also presented for RDC’s approval a four-lane underpass project on Gil Puyat Avenue (Buendia), which will pass through the intersections of Makati Avenue and Paseo de Roxas. The agency intends to start it this April.

The public works department also discussed the proposed Edsa North-North Mindanao interchange and the Circumferential Road 3 (C3) project.

Earlier ‘Christmas lanes’

Aside from these projects, Tolentino cited other roadworks ahead:

• Repairs on Pasay Road and Magallanes interchange;
• Construction of the Naia elevated expressway starting this quarter;
• Construction of the Edsa-Taft flyover in the last quarter
• Construction of the Skyway 3 from Makati to Quezon City, which was launched on Wednesday.

Tolentino said the MMDA would most likely revive its so-called “Christmas lanes” much earlier than the holidays and require the project proponents to deploy their own traffic marshals to assist motorists.

“After these projects, expect traffic to ease up. No pain, no gain,” he said. “By the first quarter of 2016, we will see all these projects in action.”

Aquino at Skyway 3 launch

President Aquino made a similar forecast in a speech during the launch of Skyway 3, which would run from Buendia, Makati City, to Balintawak, Quezon City.

Mr. Aquino said the project would serve as “an alternative highway linking southern and northern Luzon”  and reduce traffic volume on Edsa and other primary roads by about 55,000 vehicles daily.

Building it would employ around 6,000 people and create related jobs or economic activities for at least 10,000 more, he said.

The Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 is led by San Miguel Corp. and Indonesia’s Citra Group. The latter was also behind the original Skyway project in the southern part of the capital.

Proponents say the 14.8-km, six-lane elevated expressway can cut travel time from Buendia to Balintawak from an hour and a half to only about 15 minutes.

It will start at the end of the existing Skyway Stage 1 on Buendia, run through the length of Osmeña Highway, Quirino Avenue, Paco, Sta. Mesa via the Nagtahan flyovers, through Aurora Boulevard and Araneta Avenue up to Sgt. Rivera Road, and end at the bend of A Bonifacio Avenue toward North Luzon Expressway (NLEx).

Right of way issues

Completion is expected in April 2017, though SMC president Ramon Ang as well as Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya said it could be finished a year ahead of schedule if right of way issues are immediately addressed.

“There is a proposed accelerated plan. Highly critical here is (the acquisition of) right of way,” Abaya said after the program. “If things fall into place and right of way is acquired without problems, then we can get it done by June 2016.”

“Given the state of traffic in Metro Manila, both the public and private sector have been looking for ways to ease the gridlock and we believe that this project is a step in the right direction. The connector road will go a long way in helping solve our traffic problems,” Ang said.

“We recognize the importance of good infrastructure in creating the conditions for a dynamic economy,” Ang said. “A job-creating economy needs good infrastructure and a good transport system.”

According to Citra, Stage 3 will help decongest not only Edsa but also C-5 Road and streets in central Manila.

Another road project linking NLEx and South Luzon Expressway, which is being pursued by Metro Pacific Investments led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, starts construction in July this year and also targets completion in mid-2016.

Metro integrated transport gets go-ahead

Manila, Philippines – The Metro Manila mayors on Wednesday gave their green light to the integrated transport system (ITS) that involves the construction of modern and efficient intermodal transport hubs at two identified sites in the south.

The mayors gave their nod during the Regional Development Council-National Capital Region (RDC-NCR) meeting, presided by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino.

During presentation, Juan Carlos Camayo, project manager of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), identified two sites in the south where the terminals will be constructed: at Philippine Reclamation Area (PRA) near Uniwide Coastal mall in Paranaque City, just beside the existing temporary Southwest Integrated Provincial Terminal operated by the MMDA; and at Food Terminal Incorporated (FTI) site in Taguig City.

The terminals in the south will serve passengers from Laguna, Batangas and Cavite. “Sites were selected because they have access to other modes of transportation where passengers can transfer and future railways to be built. There would be seamless transfer,” said Camayo.

For the north, Camayo said they are still in the process of considering sites that would serve passengers to and from north Luzon. They are near the Philippine National Railways property in Caloocan and another site in Quezon City. Marikina City Mayor Del De Guzman, head of the infrastructure committee, moved for the approval of ITS only in the south since there is no specific location yet in the north.

Tolentino asked about the other interim terminals which President Benigno Aquino III ordered to set up. However, the DOTC said there were legal restrictions to up the terminals in Muntinlupa. Asked what will happen with the existing integrated terminal in Uniwide, Camaro said, “once permanent site in PRA becomes operation, it will cease operation.”

The government envisions the terminals to provide modern and efficient intermodal terminals where commuters from the provinces south of Metro Manila can conveniently transfer to in-city buses, rapid transit rail lines, or take other forms of urban transport.

Apart from ITS, a number of transport infrastructure projects which hopes to address the growing road traffic problem in the metropolis were also approved. The automated fare collection system (AFCS) also gained the mayors’ nod. The AFCS seeks to modernize the country’s transportation systems with the full integration of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines 1 and 2 as well as the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT3) along EDSA before President Aquino steps down in 2016. “The project will upgrade LRT and MRT’s ticketing scheme to a tap-and-go system, that would lessen queuing time and allow commuter’s seamless transfers from one rail line to another,” said lawyer Hernando Cabrera, LRTA corporate board secretary, during his presentation.

The system features contactless magnetic card that can be used in three lines. It can be used in Line 1, 2 and 3 which is more convenient for the passengers. In the long run, we it could be also used in different modes of transportation like public utility jeepneys and buses, Cabrera added.

Tolentino expressed concern on employees that would be displaced by the project. Cabrera admitted that 500 employees would be affected, saying “some of them will be transferred or offered with separation packages. Other approved major undertakings of DOTC were LRT Line 1 North Extension Project-Common Station that involves the provision of a common station for LRT 1, MRT 3 and MRT 7, and road-based transportation systems; and LRT 2 East Extension project that requires the construction of two additional stations, one at Emerald Station in Cainta Rizal and another at Masinag Station in Antipolo City.

Palace appeals for patience as government constructs major infrastructure in Metro Manila

Malacanang appealed to motorists in Metro Manila to be more patient in dealing with the expected worsening traffic condition as the government starts to carry out simultaneous construction of major infrastructure projects.
“Nananawagan na lang tayo na magkaroon ng pag-unawa ang ating mga mamamayan dahil hindi naman maaaring habang panahon nalang ipagpapaliban iyong pagsasagawa nito. Kinakailangan ang konting sakripisyo,” Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said in a press briefing in Malacanang Thursday.

“Let us share in the burden of sacrifice. [The] government will do what it can to mitigate the possible ill effects like traffic congestion,” he added noting the government can’t delay the repair of major thoroughfares like EDSA.

And as the government do these major infrastructure projects including the repair of EDSA, it plans to implement mitigation measures to lessen the burden to motorists, the Palace official said.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said at least 13 infrastructure projects will be constructed side-by-side in several parts of Metro Manila starting this year up to 2016 or before the term of President Benigno S. Aquino III ends.

Among these projects include the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Elevated Expressway, Epifanio De los Santos Ave. (EDSA)-Taft the flyover, Skyway 3, C-5 to McKinley Ramps as well as the repair of Magallanes interchange.

Metro Manila mayors also gave their go-signal to several infrastructure projects to be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).

These include the Light Railway Transit (LRT) 2 East Extension Project, LRT-1 North Extension Project Common Station, Integrated Transport System Terminals (North and South), C-5 to McKinley Ramps, Skyway 3, and Bonifacio Global City to Ortigas Center Link Road Project, EDSA-North Mindanao interchange. The anniversary celebration, traditionally celebrated on October every year since 1979, draws millions of participants who experienced the wonderful works of the Holy Spirit as they praised and worshipped Lord God and listened to His Word as a sign of penance and thanksgiving for favors received.

On October 5, 1978, Bro. Eddie C. Villanueva invited his listeners for a Thanksgiving Mass and and Worship and Healing Prayer Rally that was held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Santa Mesa Campus on the Thursday nearest his birthday, October 6. About one thousand people attended the affair and experienced the miracle-working power of God!

Encouraged by the success of the rally, Bro. Eddie scheduled a monthly Holy Mass and Worship and Healing Prayer Rally at the DWRV Compound in Quezon City. Some time later, as more people came to be led back to the Lord Jesus Christ, the rally was held weekly. A monthly Catholic Life-in-the-Spirit Seminar (CLSS) and a weekly fellowship were also held at the Strata 2000 Building, F. Ortigas Jr. Ave., Ortigas Center in Pasig City.

After a while, Bro. Eddie decided to air his program three times a week and began thinking of a new title and theme song for it. At this time, a friend gave him a magazine entitled "Jesus is Lord," which quickly aroused his interest.

He made a study of the meaning of the term and discovered that it was one of the seven Covenant Names, by which God the Father revealed Himself to Israel.

Jesus is Lord, the motto of the World Council of Churches. The most popular and briefest was "Jesus is Lord" found in 1 Corinthians 12:3; Romans 10:9 and probably in the baptisms referred to in Acts 8:16; 19:5 and 1 Cor 6:11 since their being described as "in the name of the Lord Jesus" certainly seems to imply that "the formula 'Jesus is Lord' had a place in the rite". The phrase might be extended as "Jesus Christ is Lord" as in Philippians 2:11. Shortly, he heard the song "Jesus is Lord" over Radio DWRV 860 itself:

Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the weekly fellowship came to be called the DWRV Prayer Partners Jesus the Healer, since Radio DWRV was the broadcast medium, he and his first listeners became prayer-partners, and Jesus is Lord was the Divine Name revealed to him by God. Every week, God added thousands of new prayer-partners to this community by means of the Good News aired over the radio DWXI and the Mass and Healing Rallies held all over Metro Manila and nearby provinces. As the community grew, they voluntarily gave their tithes and miracle-seed-of-faith offerings to support the radio program "Jesus the Healer" and the Mass and Healing Rallies. Some prayer-partners even volunteered to serve without compensation.

Inspired by the outcome of events, Bro. Eddie thought it was time to formally organize the community. Thus, the Jesus is Lord Fellowship, Inc. was established, which in due time was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It was organized, primarily, as an institution where Bro. Eddie could channel his tithes and donations derived from his real estate business and other companies to support the religious activities of various Catholic charismatic groups and some projects of charitable organizations. These however were not enough to support the expenses of the newly-founded charismatic community, especially the radio programs of DWRV Radio Veritas and the Mass and Healing Rallies. And so, he had to continue shelling out funds from his own personal earnings. For him, though, it was a great enough blessing from Jesus is Lord that his radio listeners came to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and were receiving answers to their prayer-requests.

From 1983 to present, other chapters were formed in Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Libya, Macau, Malaysia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, U.A.E., United Kingdom, USA and Yemen. These were formed by Filipino prayer-partners working abroad, who were motivated by the desire to bear witness to the love and goodness of Jesus Christ our Lord. With the emergence of the chapters abroad, the corporate name registered with the SEC was amended to Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide, Incorporated.

Later in 1993, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) realized that the growth of the Foundation, particularly since it was affecting Catholics, could not be taken for granted any longer. Most Rev. Teodoro C. Bacani Jr., DD, then-Auxiliary Bishop of Manila and Overall Spiritual Director of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement (CCRM) in the Archdiocese of Manila, invited Jesus Miracle Crusade International Ministry spiritual director Pastor Wilde Almeda, El Shaddai servant-leader Bro. Mike Velarde and Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide founder and spiritual director Bro. Eddie Villanueva to the CBCP Conference on January 24, 1993, to shed light on what was going on in the Foundation. On that occasion, Bishop Bacani was beside Pastor Wilde, Bro. Mike and Bro. Eddie, not to defend him, but to bear witness to what God was doing through the Foundation. The result of the meeting was satisfactory because most of the questions asked were clearly and humbly answered by Bro. Eddie.

On October 13 to 14, 1979, during its First Anniversary Celebration at the DWRV Compound in Pasig City, about five thousand people witnessed and experienced the miracle touch of Jesus is Lord.

Some eight thousand people gathered together on the Second Anniversary of the Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on October 12, 1980. Even the seemingly indifferent PICC staff were surprised because the affair lasted one whole day and it was the first time that its Reception and Plenary Halls were filled to capacity.

The Third Anniversary of the Jesus is Lord Fellowship was celebrated with an Overnight Mass and Healing Rally at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Vito Cruz, Manila, from October 17 to 18, 1981. It rained heavily throughout the affair, but the estimated two hundred thousand attendees stayed until it ended in the morning.

As early as 9:00 a.m. of October 7, 1989, members and followers of the Jesus is Lord Fellowship began trooping to the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Vito Cruz, Manila to participate in its Eleventh Anniversary. By midnight, the entire stadium was jammed with over half a million people from all over the Philippines to take part in an overnight activity of praise and worship dedicated to Jesus Christ. Bishop Teodoro C. Bacani, together with some priests from the different parishes in the Archdiocese of Manila, Archdiocese of Lipa and Archdiocese of Cebu, led the Holy Mass.

From October 13 to 14, 1990, the Twelfth Anniversary of the Jesus is Lord Fellowship was held at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila. In attendance were thousands of its members and followers, who experienced the wonderful works of the Holy Spirit as they praised and worshipped to Jesus and listened to His Word despite a storm which flooded some parts of the venue with knee-deep water.

The scenario of the Thirteenth Anniversary of the Jesus is Lord Fellowship held at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila, from October 12 to 13, 1991, was identical to that of its 12th Anniversary. Nevertheless, the almost half a million attendees braved the monsoon rains and knee-deep flood to give thanks, praise and worship to God.

On the occasion of the Fourteenth Anniversary Celebration of the Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide held at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila, from October 17 to 18, 1992, more than one-and-a-half million prayer-partners attended the affair. His Excellency, President Fidel V. Ramos, gave his greetings to the congregation.

For the first time in the history of Rizal Park and the whole of Metro Manila for that matter, about three million people joined the Fifteenth Anniversary Celebration of the Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide at the national park from October 8 to 9, 1994. The participants crowded the 61-hectare park and adjacent areas-Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, UN Avenue, T.M. Kalaw St., Port Area, and Jones Bridge. Some of them came to the venue as early as three days before the event. They came not only from Metro Manila, but also from Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, the Ilocos Region, Quezon, the Bicol Region, Sorsogon, Leyte, and other distant provinces. Also present were members from different overseas chapters of the Foundation.

His Excellency, President Fidel V. Ramos was the guest of honor during the Eighteenth Anniversary of the Foundation at the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila on October 13, 1996. In line with the anniversary theme, which is unity, leaders from the different charismatic groups and religious groups were invited to speak in a CLSS. During the Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin, a mass wedding took place, in which eighty couples who had been living together as common-law spouses finally tied the knot.

Last year, two days after the UAAP Season 75 Basketball Finals between the Ateneo Blue Eagles versus UST Growling Tigers at Smart Araneta Coliseum on October 11, 2012, at least nine million participants participated in the 34th Anniversary Celebration of Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide, with no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Benigno S. Aquino III as guest-of-honor in the celebration, traversing a crowd from the 61-hectare Rizal Park to Port Area to the Quiapo church in a celebration that lasted twenty-four hours from 9:00 a.m. of Sunday, October 14, 2012 to 9:30 a.m. of Monday, October 15, 2012. 

The Anniversary Celebration Themes are: "GREAT GOD. GREAT OUTPOURING" (Jeremihah 33:3) in 2011, "Prepare the Way of the LORD" in 2012 and "Revolution of Righteousness" in 2013.

Meanwhile, environmentalists and community leaders around Quiapo area are calling for a annual “green” celebration of the anniversary of Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide.

Local leaders and the environmental network Ecowaste Coalition urged devotees and visitors to couple their devotion to the Jesus Christ our Lord Savior with respect for the environment.

The call came as participants leading to the anniversary fiesta celebration on October every year since 1979.

“Combining our people’s amazing devotion to the Jesus Christ our Lord with action respecting, nurturing and defending Mother Earth will be a powerful force of hope and deliverance against those who trash and ruin the environment,” Tin Vergara, Zero Waste Campaigner of the EcoWaste Coalition, said.

“If the millions of devotees who come to Rizal Park and Quiapo will simply not litter and avoid waste in all its forms, we’ll have a feast that is pleasing to the eyes and pleasing to the Lord,” she added.

Past celebrations in 35 years have seen truckloads of garbage collected from Rizal Park to Port Area to Ermita to Quiapo that included cigarette butts, candy and snack wrappers, plastic bags, cups, bottles and straws, polystyrene food containers and bamboo skewers that often cause injuries to barefooted participants

DOTC likely to award LRT-MRT ticketing project today

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) will likely award the single ticketing system project for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) on Thursday.

The DOTC is set to award the P1.72 billion contract to the tandem of conglomerate Ayala Corporation and infrastructure giant Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), pending approval of the Regional Development Council of the National Capital Region.

"I checked what is critical is the RDC today, I talked with the chairman today. Once we get RDC approval which is an essential requirement then we could award. That's a requirement for eventual award,” Transportation Sec. Jun Abaya said on Wednesday.

He added that issues raised by losing and disqualified bidders will be addressed before making an award.

The AF Consortium led by Ayala and MPIC submitted a negative bid of P1,088,103,900 for the project.

Henry Sy’s SM Consortium submitted a negative bid of P1,088,000,000 while the Comworks-Berjaya Consortium submitted a bid of P2,050,090,300.

The contract signing is scheduled on the last week of January and the full implementation of the project is set on the third quarter of 2015.

The LRT-MRT single ticket system aims to ease payment for the train system as well as other modes of transportation such as buses. It can also be used in paying toll, electronic banking, and shopping.
