With less than three weeks before the grand Black Nazarene procession on January 9, 2014, the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) is already stepping up its preparations for one of the country’s most well-attended religious events.
The MMDRRMC, headed by Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino, has called for a coordination meeting to plan security, emergency, traffic, and crowd control arrangements for that Thursday (January 9) when devotees participate in the Traslacion Procession. The event will take the image of the Black Nazarene from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta, Manila back to Quiapo Church.
The group is also preparing for the procession of the Black Nazarene replicas at 3 p.m. on January 7, Tuesday, and the vigil at the Quirino Grandstand on January 8.
According to Monsignor Clemente Ignacio, rector and parish priest of the Quiapo Church, he is expecting more than 10 million devotees to flock to the church starting on January 1 until January 9.
